BACKPACK BUDDIES

Mike Gorski, owner of Island Transportation Services, is committed to giving back to the local community. In 2017, he launched The Gorski and Friends Challenge to help raise additional funds at the Backpack Buddies’ Annual Chili Cook-off. The Challenge benefits the Kiawah Women's Foundation and Seabrook Island Backpack Buddies Group. Both organizations are 501(c)(3) nonprofits whose mission is to feed local school children on the weekend and during school holidays.

Each year, Mike and Friends pledge $1,000 each and challenge the island neighbors to match their donation, doubling the impact of their contributions. Since the first year which raised $8,800 in 2017, The Gorski and Friends Challenge has grown substantially in monies presented to both organizations:
  • 2017: $8,800
  • 2018: $28,000
  • 2019: $40,000
  • 2020: $80,000
  • 2021: $138,260
  • 2022: $153,500

Mike thanks all of the sponsors, his Friends and the local residents who are very supportive of this much needed program. He also would like to thank the many local clients of Island Transportation Services.
